Do You Know the Bagel Man?
I made a market bag for him, and so can you!
The first week of May means only one thing—it’s farmers market season!
(Ok, it means a few other things, too, but I’m most excited about market season.)
Plus, this is the time in my Knitting Year that I move away from knitting piles of sweaters, but still want to knit stockinette in-the-round with worsted weight yarn.
The Bagel Man Market Bag fits that bill!
This bag requires worsted weight cotton yarn. I used Peaches & Creme Original—a nice sturdy and easy-to-find yarn—but use whatever you enjoy.
The base is knit flat, then you pick up stitches and start knitting in the round! The only seaming you’ll have to do is at the very end when you graft your strap to the bag.
I know I’m biased, but the way I designed the corners is super cool. The corners end up reinforced, and the process is so simple yet oddly satisfying.
Plus I have SIX video tutorials that I created to help you through all of the techniques. An advanced beginner could handle this bag. (I even teach Knitting Math in one of them! And we all know that Knitting Math is the Best Math.)
As always, my pattern has been tech edited and test knit by some really lovely knitters. (At least one of the testers is planning to make a second bag which, in my opinion, is the highest compliment.)
“But WHO is this Bagel Man?” you ask.
I love to spend summer Saturday mornings at the local farmers market. I throw my reusable bag over my shoulder, so that I am ready to fill it up with all of the goodies. Strolling around the open-air market, I peruse a wonderful abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables, hand-made crafts, and baked goods. But I always have to arrive early if I want… bagels!!!
The Bagel Man and his wife, The Bagel Lady, always have the longest line at their tent. If you get there late, they will inevitably be sold out.
