Fade Into Neverland with Me!
My debut independent design—Fade Into Neverland Socks pattern— is LIVE!!! (Plus a discount!!)
It’s here! The day my first independently designed knitting pattern hits the internet! (And, of course there’s a coupon!)
But first—my quandary…
I have always loved knitting toe-up socks. I can check the fit as I go, I can manage how much yarn I’m using, and I don’t have to sew anything if I don’t want to. (Granted, the tubular bind off is one of my favorites.)
BUT
I spent years knitting toe-up socks that just didn’t fit me. They fell off the back of my heel, or they were too small because I misjudged where to cut in my afterthought heel.
Eventually I gathered the courage to attempt a top-down heel-flap-and-gusset sock. After a bit of tweaking, it stole my sock-fit heart.
Through the many top-down sock projects that followed, I still yearned for my beloved toe-up process.
Over the years, I have tried other types of toe-up heels that have approximated the heel-flap-and-gusset. I liked them! But they were never quite right. So I set my sights on finding a solution.
I wanted a toe-up sock with exceptional fit.
And y’all, I did it.
The result of my ruminating, planning, and testing is the “Fade Into Neverland Socks.”
I knew I wanted to incorporate a few other fun attributes—like a rounded toe, ribbing on the leg, and a few fade sections so I could pair any two single skeins that I thought looked good together.
It is because of this last part, that the sock refers to Neverland.
Are you someone (or maybe you know them) who has a plethora of single skeins of sock yarn in your stash? You see those lonely skeins for sale on a shop, and you just have to buy them and give them a home? You dear Collector of Lost Boys! Unfortunately, you may have trouble finding a pattern that gives them space to play well together.
But you can definitely pair them together in a fade!!! Single skeins, One of a Kinds (OOAKs), and general Lost Boys unite!
