If you haven’t yet had a chance to watch my most recent YouTube episode, let me recap:
My new Bagel Man Market Bag pattern comes out NEXT WEEK!
I finished a couple (of awesome) projects.
I spent an amazing weekend with not-virtual knitters 💝 and a virtual Sam Heughan. 🥾
And finally, I dug out three deep (aka abandoned) WIPs (Works In Progress)—a garter blanket and two lace shawls.
That last item on the list got me to thinking this week…
LACE!!! Lovely, luxurious, legendary, lavish lace. 💖
I have knit a fair amount of lace over the years. I think my “crowning glory” was my Crown Prince Shawl by Nancy Bush—a traditional Estonian lace shawl. It was a long and challenging process, but I loved it!!
(And yes, I was much younger when this photo was taken.)
I adore knitting lace, but the really cool patterns require a massive amount of attention. These days, my life seems to be full of things that require my attention, so lace has regrettably fallen very low on the list.
BUT!
I am determined to get back to All of the Lace!
Once I finish my relatively-easier lace shawl WIP, I have a new lace shawl project waiting in the wings. (I can see the skein of gorgeous lace weight yarn in the shadowed space just off stage, vibrating with excitement. All 800+ yards of that green gloriousness can’t wait to be cast on!)
Not only does my planned project incorporate traditional lace, but it will also require some significant modifications. I will be knitting the shawl in the opposite direction than the pattern is written, and I will be making it a triangle instead of a square. If you have a wish-giving personality, I could use some good ones coming my way! 🤞🏻😂🤷🏻♀️
Experiments like this one usually only end one of two ways—as a resounding success or an abject failure. Let’s hope for the former!!
But first, I will have to finish my beautiful Naomh shawl. (Just keep knitting, just keep knitting! 🐟)
Are you knitting lace? Or thinking about it??? Tell me about it!!
Remember to watch for next week’s pattern release of the Bagel Man Market Bag! I will have all the info here in a week! You can also get a sneak peak if you head over to Mountain Song Designs on YouTube and watch “Episode 5–WIPs and Waypoints.”

Slàinte mhath and happy knitting!
I’ve not tackled lace knitting yet. It’s on my list of want to try’s.
I have a lace pattern waiting for me! It will be my 1st.
