While this is the season for very many types of knitting, let’s focus on the first and last points on the list: Holiday Knitting, and Amazing Accessories.
Falliday Season
My new design, the Falliday Cowl, is out TODAY!!
That’s right, friends, and I’ll admit that I’m am super stoked about it! This cowl is the yarn embodiment of the last quarter of the year. From October through December—Fall into Winter—so many cozy, fun, contemplative, and exciting holidays are celebrated.
Halloween, Harvest (aka Pumpkin Spice Season), Christmas, Hanukkah, and any celebration that includes candles… So many festivities are packed into the last few months of the year. It’s no wonder people are happy for the holidays to arrive.
Falliday Cowl
This joy and excitement of the holiday season is what inspired the Falliday Cowl.
I used lace and cables to create an elegant cowl. But I also used them to express the holidays through iconography. Depending on how you view the lace and cables—and depending on what awesome sock set you use—you may find a witch’s broom, sheaves of harvested wheat, a Christmas tree, or a candelabra. You might even find some hiding hearts.
A Fit of Elegance
I adore cowls that have a funnel shape—broad at the shoulders, and more fitted at the neck. They just fit me better! I want people to be able to see the art I’ve created, while also having my neck stay warm.
And no floppy cowl necks for me, thanks! Don’t get me wrong, there is totally a place for very wide necked cowls in my wardrobe—they offer me the opportunity to cinch them with a pretty broach. But sometimes, I just want it to be fuss-free and super comfortable.
One of the cool things about this cowl is that nearly all of the shaping is created through the play of lace into cables. While a bit of shaping is done through decreases, the process is quick and hassle-free.
The tapered shape of the cowl makes for easy styling. You can wear it spread across your shoulders, or scrunch it up some to fit better in a winter coat. Plus the fabric made with fingering weight wool yarn is light enough for a fall afternoon, but warm enough to take you through the cold winter months.
Don’t mind me—I’m just sitting here pondering all the places I’d like to fly to on my broom!
