Think back to the first book you loved. Yes, I loved Goodnight Moon, too. Now, skip a few years… maybe a few more. Let’s land in late elementary. We’re nine or ten years old.
Now, what book did you love most?
By that age, I was firmly ensconced in the Anne of Green Gables Fan Club. I’m pretty sure the term “fangirl” was derived from “Anne girl.”
I spent hours of my girlhood reading and dreaming about Anne. I tried to write stories like her. I tried to think like her. My Anne World appeared in my imagination as a starry vignette.
And as for me and my house, we are Team Megan Follows. Who’s with me?! (Sullivan Entertainment/CBC)
Needless to say, I have never lost my love for that spunky girl with iconic red braids.
Like many things I loved as a child, Anne has bled into my creative choices and endeavors, even (mumble, mumble, mumble) decades later. One of these outpourings took shape in my new sock design…
The Echo Lodge Socks
I adored Miss Lavendar. Granted I imagined her as closer to 65 than her actual 45 years. My most recent reading of Anne of Avonlea put her situation—and the secondary stories of the other adult women woven into the story—more in perspective.
If you would like to hear a bit more about that, as well as a variety of other Anne-related books, knits, and musings, check out my recent YouTube episode.
The Echo Lodge Socks
These toe-up socks are as special as their inspiration—the sweet cast of characters who come together at Echo Lodge in Anne of Avonlea. The simple lace is reminiscent of their traipsing through the woods in search of wild strawberries and water nymphs. The lace is mirrored between the two socks—like the echoes bouncing about the wooded glen.
This heel is the coolest thing I’ve designed thus far. The innovative heel fits exactly like a heel flap and gusset—despite being on a toe-up sock—by using a creative twist of techniques. (I need a bumper sticker that reads, “Proud Heel Mama.”)
The Echo Lodge Socks are perfect for your self-striping yarn—sometimes you need more than a vanilla sock for those beautiful skeins! The contrasting color on the heels, toes, and cuffs will allow the stripe pattern to remain consistent.
However, both my test knitters and I have also knit these socks on specked and variegated yarns. They’re all gorgeous. The lace is lovely, but not so involved that it will disappear in variegated dye techniques.
This pattern includes charts and written instructions, and includes both video and photo tutorial support. As always, the pattern has been tech edited and test knit.
Fun fact: A few of my test knitters had never knit toe-up socks before. Now they are excited to knit toe-up socks in the future because they fell in love with this heel, and because the pattern walked them through the process.

Looking forward to casting on for Echo Lodge Socks, but...... I'm not a huge fan of toe-up socks. What would suggest for top-down in terms of the pattern?
Thank you......
